To answer your questions, the key reason that we hold it for one week only is a very practical one: it would be difficult to get the 400-450 volunteers we need to operate it to commit for multiple weeks. (I take the week off, and usually put in 60-70 hours helping run things.) We have had up to 2,000 kids attend (and I expect this year will be no different).
