So in that controlled environment, the lack of validation against a schema wasn't a problem, and dropping the SOAP was a bonus.Now, with greater standards support, more libraries for XML development, and so on, I am not sure we would make the same decision, but I can say with confidence that using XML over HTTP without SOAP wasn't a BAD idea.
