Basophils are circulating effector cells of allergic reactions.1???4 These cells express the high-affinity receptor for immunoglobulin E (IgE), Fc??RI, and synthesize numerous proinflammatory and vasoactive mediators such as histamine, leukotrienes, and cytokines.2???6 Most of these mediators including histamine, are stored within the metachromatic granules of basophils.
