  • The effect of PFOS (and perfluorooctanesulfonamides) on antioxidant enzyme levels and activities, in particular SOD, is poorly investigated and appear to be conflicting: While PFOS caused an increase in SOD activity in primary cultured hepatocytes of freshwater tilapia (Liu et al., 2007), a gene profiling study did not report changes in SOD gene expression in rats (Guruge et al., 2006).
