  • I cannot find the first paper, but the replicate paper is this study, published in the European Heart Journal. 108 male Masters marathon runners over 50 who have competed in more than 5 marathons in the previous 3 years were considered, and were matched up either by age (group II) or by age and other risk factors such as BMI, smoking status, etc. (group III) to a group of sedentary individuals.
