  • In some eukaryotes, such as the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum, genomes contain more coding than noncoding DNA. In most eukaryotes, however, noncoding DNA is present in large excess relative to coding DNA. In D. melanogaster, about 80% of the genome is noncoding and in humans and mice more than 98% of the genome is noncoding.
