  • While the south did have to deal with railroads of standard, 5??? and even 5???6??? gauges, in the north there were a fair number of roads built to 4???10??? (NJ, OH) and 6??? gauge (certain PA and NY roads), and IIRC the Pennsy was actually a 4???9??? gauge road.
