  • The wire 38 of the primary winding 36 is usually magnet wire having a wire gauge and insulation thickness chosen so that the twisted pair 32 has a characteristic impedance similar to that of the intended transmission line 12. 36 gauge wire with class 200 double build insulation is a typical primary winding material and when such is used, about 10 twists/inch generate the proper impedance.
