  • The fairytale does not usually have fairy characters at all but rather royalty, underdogs, villains, and monsters such as dragons, ogres, especially ghouls in the Middle East, has distinct characteristics such as formulaic beginning and ending (Once upon a time..) and common structural features (see Vladimir Propp's Morphology of the Folktale).
