| http://www.w3.org/ns/prov#value | - people use please for many reasons. some use it b/c they truly do believe everything is a request. your child has a choice whether or not to hit, put on their shoes, etc. others use it as a model for politeness. they hope their children will model it back. there are many who use it just out of habit and never really mean it. and, like you, some only use it for true requests.
