  • EAEC are a heterogeneous emerging pathogen affecting all ages, prevalent in resource-rich and resource-limited settings, and are associated with acute and persistent watery diarrhea in children, travelers and in individuals infected with HIV/AIDS. Low prevalence of EAEC has been reported from Brazil, [19] wherein EPEC was the most prevalent (10%) followed by ETEC (7.5%) and EAEC (4%).
