  • Sir, While it is obvious that hedges (letters, Sept 23, 24, 25) should not be cut in summer due to the wildlife that lives, feeds and nests in them, we cannot simply make a case for cutting only in winter: there are moths, flies, butterflies, beetles, hoverflies, bugs and other insects (either as eggs, pupae or adults) which use them as an overwintering location.
