Reaction is conducted in a reaction-inert solvent such as tetrahydrofuran (THF) generally adding the diethyl azodicarboxylate at room temperature to a solution of polycycloalkanol, phenol and triphenylphosphine in THF. Upon completion of the addition, the reaction is refluxed until essentially complete and the mixed ether recovered by known procedures.
