Archaeological consultants to our investigation have told us that if pieces of whatever came down in Brazel's pasture on that fateful day had lain on the desert floor for even a period as short as one day, there is an excellent chance that rodents of one sort or another [the area is inhabited by prairie dogs and jack rabbits] would have carried pieces of it into their nests.
